On a recent shopping trip, I found myself chatting to one of the lovely ladies on the YSL counter. Half an hour later she sent me on my way clutching the handles of a couple of beautiful, glossy bags and a slight dose of shopper’s guilt. One of my shiny new products was a tester of the YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer, one of those things that I hear a lot about, and have a slight nagging feeling that I should be using. Therefore, my lovely YSL lady gave me a sample of the stuff and told me to go and try it before making a decision.
The primer is a light-infused transparent gel primer and claims to even out the skin tone, blur imperfections and help makeup last longer. A good old Google search told me that the transparency of the primer allows light to diffuse evenly, without the interference of opaque fillers found in white or tinted primers. Which in turn leads to the more even, radiant and blurred appearance of skin. The added gold shimmer also gives an evenly distributed radiance.
I have quite normal skin with a relatively oily T-Zone, and usually need to reapply powder to my nose and forehead. But with this product, a little really does go a long way, and you only need a small amount to comfortably cover your whole face.
The primer feels really luxurious, and as a higher end product I was grateful for this – it made it a lot easier to justify buying the full size version! It doesn’t feel sticky or particularly heavy on the skin, and I was more than happy applying my cream foundation about a minute later. It definitely improved the longevity of my make up; my midday touch up only needed a tiny bit of powder on the bridge of my nose, and that was more for vanity than necessity. I also found that I was using far less foundation after using the primer, and was being complemented on my healthy looking glow.
It’s not a cheap product (£29.50), and I’d be lying if I said I couldn’t live without it. But as a treat to your make up bag and your face, the Blur Primer is a great investment to revamp your make up. Wearing it makes me feel more put together, and I can forget about my make up for the whole of the working day without worrying about shine. I’ve also found that I use far less foundation and powder (arguably my most purchased products), so I can justify it by saying I’m saving money in the long run – perfect!
Touche Éclat Blur Primer can be bought from most UK stores or from the YSL website
