If I received a pound every time someone said to me: “oh, university is just basically sex, drugs, and rock and roll!” I would have enough money to not have to worry about tuition fees, rent and buying food to survive. I wouldn’t be worrying each term about how I’ve got to pay for all this, and have the best experience of my life.
Okay, maybe that is a slight exaggeration. The truth is University students have no money! If you’re in the unfortunate group of students, like myself, who get the minimum amount of Student Finance, you’ll know how difficult it is to get through each term.
However, there are a few things that can help to make you feel a little less depressed. Some students live like there’s no tomorrow and party every night (not the wisest, but who am I to judge), others binge watch Netflix till the sun rises and eating all your favourite food from your cupboards. But for me, my guilty pleasure is stuffing my face with a bag full of sweets.
So for those of you who are like me and have a sweet tooth, I have made a list of the best, and most affordable sweet shops in Yorkshire.
Something Sweet, Hebden Bridge
If you have ever been to Hebden Bridge, you will know that it is full of wonderfully quirky stores with eccentric and friendly locals. One of those unique stores is Something Sweet, located in the centre, which is beautiful and traditional. It is known for its excellent prices, smiley staff, superb sweet variation, and a range of unique cordial flavours!
Oldest Sweet Shop in England, Harrogate
Where else would you go to get your sweetie fix other than the Oldest Sweet Shop in England! What I love about this sweet shop is the large old fashioned jars they have with different sweets in to buy: apple bon bons, candy sticks, traffic light lollipops, and my absolute favourite, cherry lips!
The Lollipop Tree, Huddersfield
Imagine this: you are stood in the middle of a square room no bigger than your student accommodation’s front room; you can smell fudge, foam shrimps, and drumsticks; you open your eyes and you are astounded by the colours: pink, blue, red, green, and yellow; there is so much to see you cannot take it in all at once. You feel amazed and, as the saying goes, as excited as a kid in a candy store. The Lollipop Tree, on the outskirts of Huddersfield, fulfilling a candy lovers dreams since 2010.
